If you just recently bought a house and moved to Boston,
here is important information to know: St. Patrick’s Day is huge here! Whether
you’re Irish or not, as a Boston real estate agent, I encourage you to
participate in at least one local St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Get the feel
for the history and the culture.

St Patrick’s Day Parade
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in South Boston is the biggest
event of the season. This year, the parade will take place on March 16,
beginning at 1 p.m., and usually lasts around three hours. This is said to be
the second largest parade in the country and is viewed by up to one million
people every year!
It begins at the Broadway MBTA station and ends at Andrew
Square, so staking out a viewing location anywhere along Broadway is a safe
option. There, you will get a great view of marching bands and bagpipe players
from Ireland, Boston and across the U.S., along with lots of colorful floats.
Spirited Events
The 6th Annual Irish Pub Challenge on March 8 is where beer
lovers unite in the Financial District and Downtown Boston for an annual
tradition. Participants download an app that takes them through the route,
where they can earn points at different stops along the way. Get a team
together and have fun!
The Saint Paddy’s PubCrawl Boston is another annual
tradition that takes place at a long list of Irish, and non-Irish, pubs and
bars throughout the city. It begins near Faneuil Hall and stops at pubs all
within walking distance of the Freedom Trail. Official t-shirts are available
for $10. This takes place each night, from March 14 through March 17, so plenty
of opportunities to partake!
Races
The 4th Annual Guinness Celtic 5K on March 9 is a great way
to get a head start on your fitness goals this spring, rather than celebrating
St. Patrick’s Day with booze! This run takes place in Worcester, MA and starts around
11 a.m., with the Worcester parade beginning an hour later. Post-race parties take place
at local bars along the race route.
The 3rd Annual Medway Shamrock Shuffle on March 15 is held
at Medway High School, beginning at 9 a.m. The top three male and female
finishers, as well as First Place titles for all age categories, will win prizes.
This race is great for the whole family to participate in!
St. Patrick’s Day Road Race on March 16 takes place before
the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in South Boston. It begins at 11 a.m. at the South
Boston Boys & Girls Club. Run with the crowd, or cheer them on, and then
head straight to the parade afterward!
The 14th Annual Barton Center St. Patrick’s Road Race/Walk
on March 17 is a four-mile course that benefits diabetes education. Walkers
begin at 12:30 p.m. and runners begin at 1 p.m. Run or walk for a great cause
and then enjoy a delicious buffet and awards ceremony afterward. Non-racers can
enjoy the buffet for $10.
